Forklift Tilt Cylinders Structure

How Forklift Tilt Cylinders Work?

The forklift tilt cylinder is a double-acting hydraulic cylinder, meaning that hydraulic pressure can move it in two directions (extend and retract).

Tilting Backwards (Fork Carriage Tilting Back): The operator moves the tilt control lever, instructing the hydraulic pump to deliver pressurized hydraulic fluid to the cylinder's cap end port (bottom). This pressure acts on the piston, causing the piston rod to extend. As the piston rod extends, it pushes the fork carriage, causing it to tilt backward, towards the operator.

Tilting Forwards: The operator moves the control lever in the opposite direction. Pressurized hydraulic fluid is now delivered to the piston rod end port. This pressure acts on the other side of the piston, causing the piston rod to retract into the cylinder. This pulling action causes the fork carriage to tilt forward, away from the operator.
