Working Principle of the Steering Hydraulic Cylinder
- Operator Input: The operator moves the steering control device (joystick or handle) on the platform.
- Valve Activation: This control signal activates the directional control valve on the machine's hydraulic power unit. Fluid Direction: The valve directs pressurized hydraulic fluid from the pump to one port of the steering cylinder ("cylinder head end" or "piston rod end").
- Linear Motion: The pressurized fluid forces the piston inside the cylinder to extend or retract. The piston rod is directly connected to the machine's steering mechanism or tie rod.
- Wheel Steering: The linear motion of the piston rod is converted into the rotational motion required to turn the wheels left or right.
- Return Flow: As the piston moves, the hydraulic fluid on the other side of the piston is pushed back to the hydraulic fluid reservoir through the return line.
- Position Holding: When the control device is released, the valve resets, stopping the flow of hydraulic fluid and locking the cylinder in its current position, thereby maintaining wheel stability.
