Heavy-Duty Hydraulic Lifting Cylinders for Continuous Casting Straightener & Withdrawal Units
Engineered for Metallurgical Precision: 42CrMo Alloy Structure, Ceramic Rod Coating, and Zero-Drift Gap Control.
The Critical Muscle of the Caster
In the continuous casting process (CCM), the Straightener and Withdrawal Units (segment area) represent the transition from liquid fragility to solid strength. The hydraulic lifting cylinders in this section are responsible for maintaining the precise roll gap required to pull the solidified strand without causing internal cracks or surface defects. Unlike standard industrial actuators, these cylinders operate in a hostile zone of intense radiant heat, steam, and abrasive scale.
The challenge is twofold: Rigidity and Surface Integrity. Standard carbon steel cylinders often suffer from thermal deflection, leading to uneven roll pressure. Furthermore, standard chrome plating inevitably micro-cracks under the thermal cycling, allowing corrosive steam to penetrate the substrate, leading to the dreaded “rod peeling” failure mode. At Ever-Power, we solve this by utilizing a Stal stopowa 42CrMo construction paired with advanced Laser Cladding Ceramic Coating technology.

Why Upgrade to Ceramic-Coated 42CrMo Cylinders?
Laser Cladded Ceramic Armor
Traditional hard chrome is porous. In a CCM environment, acidic steam penetrates these pores, rusting the rod from the inside out. Our Ceramic Coating (Laser Cladding) creates a metallurgical bond with the substrate. It is non-porous, chemically inert, and has a hardness exceeding HV 1000. This renders the rod virtually immune to scratches from scale and corrosion from cooling water.
42CrMo Structural Rigidity
Gap control requires absolute stiffness. We replace standard Q345 steel with 42CrMo (AISI 4140) quenched and tempered alloy steel for the cylinder barrel and rod. This material offers 30% higher yield strength, preventing “ballooning” under high pressure and ensuring the roll gap remains constant even when the slab exerts uneven separating forces.
Matryca uszczelniająca wysokotemperaturowa
Heat destroys seals. We utilize a proprietary sealing configuration featuring Fluorocarbon (Viton) and Bronze-filled PTFE. These materials can withstand continuous operating temperatures of 200°C. Furthermore, our rod gland design includes a metallic scraper ring to mechanically shear off heavy scale build-up before it reaches the primary soft seal.

Precision Control in the Heat Zone
Our cylinders are specifically designed for the Straightener and Withdrawal Segments of Slab, Bloom, and Billet casters. The hydraulic actuator must perform two critical functions:
- Dynamic Gap Adjustment: As the slab cools and shrinks, the cylinder must micro-adjust the roll gap to maintain constant ferrostatic pressure support.
- Dummy Bar Insertion: The cylinder must fully retract to allow the insertion of the dummy bar chain at the start of the cast, requiring a long stroke with high stability.
By integrating internal displacement sensors, our hydraulic cylinder solutions provide the mill PLC with real-time feedback, enabling Automatic Gap Control (AGC) with accuracy up to ±0.1mm.
Global Success: Solving the “Steam Corrosion” Crisis
Project: Integrated Steel Plant, Gujarat, India
Wyzwanie: A major slab caster was experiencing cylinder failure every 4-5 months on Segment 8 (the curve straightener). The intense steam from the secondary cooling sprays was causing the chrome plating on the piston rods to peel, destroying the wiper seals and contaminating the hydraulic oil.
Rozwiązanie: Ever-Power engineered a custom batch of 220mm bore cylinders featuring our Laser Clad Ceramic coating. We also redesigned the front gland to include a water-cooled jacket, reducing the seal temperature by 40°C.
Wynik: The new cylinders have been in operation for 28 months without a single seal failure. The mill estimates a savings of $350,000 USD in downtime and spare parts inventory.

China’s Premier Source for Metallurgical Hydraulics
Located in the heart of China’s advanced manufacturing district, Ever-Power is more than a supplier; we are a specialized manufacturer. Unlike trading companies, we control every step of production—from the raw 42CrMo billet to the final high-pressure testing bench.
Specjalizujemy się w Customization and Obsolescence Management. If you have an older Demag, Danieli, or Primetals caster with discontinued cylinder models, we can reverse-engineer them. Send us the old unit or drawings, and we will manufacture a dimensionally identical replacement with modern material upgrades (like Ceramic coating and better seals).
